چکیده

In this correspondence information theoretical tools are used to investigate the statistical properties of modeled cochlear nucleus globular bushy cell spike trains. The firing patterns are obtained from a simulation software that generates sample spike trains from any auditory input. Here we analyze for the first time the responses of globular bushy cells to voiced and unvoiced speech sounds. Classical entropy estimates, such as the direct method, are improved upon by considering a timevarying and time-dependent entropy estimate. With this method we investigated the relationship between the predictability of the neuronal response and the frequency content in the auditory signals. The analysis quantifies the temporal precision of the neuronal coding and the memory in the neuronal response.

Functional Interaction between the Shell Sub-Region of the Nucleus Accumbens and the Ventral Tegmental Area in Response to Morphine: an Electrophysiological Study

This study has examined the functional importance of nucleus accumbens (NAc)-ventral tegmental area (VTA) interactions. As it is known, this interaction is important in associative reward processes. Under urethane anesthesia, extracellular single unit recordings of the shell sub-region of the nucleus accumbens (NAcSh) neurons were employed to determine the functional contributions of the VTA to...

Stimulus signal estimation from auditory-neural transduction inverse processing

Auditory models reverse processing techniques would have very useful applications in speech perception and auditory models evaluation. This paper examines how we can be benefit an Inner Hair Cell (IHC) model as a compression and envelope detection section, in the cochlear model inverse processing. Our proposed inversion method, combines the reverse of the Meddis’s auditory neural transduction m...

The effect of morphine on some electrophysiological parameters of paragigantocellularis and locus coeruleus nuclei interconnections

As one of the most important diffused brain modulatory systems, the nucleus locus coeruleus (LC) receives most of its afferents from the nucleus paragigantocellularis (PGi) and plays a major role in the control of drug dependence and some emotional and exciting states. For detailed investigation of the effect of morphine on relationship between these two brain stem nuclei, the activity of the r...

The volley theory and the spherical cell puzzle.

Temporal coding in the auditory nerve is strikingly transformed in the cochlear nucleus. In contrast to fibers in the auditory nerve, some neurons in the cochlear nucleus can show "picket fence" phase-locking to low-frequency pure tones: they fire a precisely timed action potential at every cycle of the stimulus. Such synchronization enhancement and entrainment is particularly prominent in neur...
